Chemeketa Woodburn gets festive at 14th annual Cinco de Mayo celebration

By Sam Wright and Cameron Foster

Over the weekend Woodburn Chemeketa celebrated their fourteenth annual Cinco de Mayo festivities on their campus. There was a stage set up for entertainment, including a band and singers.

The president of Chemeketa Community College, Julie Huckestein, and president-to-be Jessica Howard commenced festivities at Woodburn’s annual Cinco De Mayo Festival.

The ceremony was held April 3, at Chemeketa’s Lincoln Building in Woodburn.

Event activities continued through May 5.

“I believe Cinco De Mayo to be a great opportunity to celebrate Mexican culture and heritage here in the United States,”  said Woodburn Mayor Eric Swenson.

The fair exhibited authentic Mexican food, live traditional music and vibrant cultural dances.
