Gunshot at Brooks campus leads to arrest

At 10:24 a.m. on Friday, Marion County Sheriff’s Office deputies responded to reports of an explosion at the Chemeketa Brooks Regional Training Center. When officers arrived, they identified the sound as a single round discharged from a firearm into the floor of a campus bathroom.
According to Sgt. Chris Baldridge, the public information officer of the Marion County Sheriff’s Office, a person of interest was found with a vehicle of interest at 2:17 p.m. on I-5 southbound in Sutherlin, Ore., a city in Douglas County about two hours south of Brooks.
The suspect, Taeton Harrington of The Dalles, Ore., was arrested on charges of burglary I, criminal mischief II, unlawful use of a firearm and carrying a concealed firearm.
The college said no one was harmed in an announcement on its website regarding the campus’s closure for the rest of the day.
