Jeannie Odle, the executive coordinator for the Chemeketa Board of Education, was recently honored as recipient of the 2014 Professional Board Staff Member Award from the Association of Community College Trustees.
Odle, who has worked at Chemeketa for more than 40 years, was honored for her work assisting the Board of Education and the college’s president and vice president.
“I wasn’t expecting it,” she said. “So I was really surprised when I heard that I was receiving it.
“But it was an honor to be up there and to accept the award and to thank the people around me because it’s not just me. I have a lot of help.”
Board chairman Ed Dodson, in his nomination letter, said, “Jeannie has … an abundance of school pride and sprit that is infused in everything she does.”
The award ceremony was held in Chicago in late October.
The Association of Community College Trustees is a non-profit organization that represents more than 1,000 community colleges from across the United States and globally.
“I love working here,” Odle said. “It’s a great place to be, though retirement (in a few years) isn’t out of the question.”
Odle said the award recognized the work she did each day.
“I guess for me, it’s validation. … It meant a lot to me. … It was a huge honor. I was representing Chemeketa and community colleges in Oregon.”
