A total of 18 schools competed in the tournament including Reed College, University of Portland, University of Redlands, and the University of Oregon. Chemeketa was the only community college represented at the tournament, and is one of the only community colleges in the nation that has a Mock Trial team. Team member Kaitlyn Wimmer also won an individual award for her role as a witness.
Chemeketa’s Mock Trial coach, Maria Cruse, said that this co-curricular activity is a fantastic opportunity for students to get a taste of how to utilize case law. In addition to trial simulation, Mock Trial teaches teamwork, critical thinking, and gives insight into how trials take place.
