Storm Report: Women’s Basketball
After a rocky start to league, the Chemeketa Storm Women’s Basketball Team finished the season strong to place fifth in the South Division.
The Storm began league with a 1-5 record. However, after that stretch, the team went on a 6-4 run to finish in the middle of the pack with a record of 7-9 in league and 9-18 overall. The team demonstrated improvement throughout the season. In their first matchup against Linn-Benton Community College on Jan. 13, the Storm fell 83-68. In their rematch on Feb. 17, the Storm prevailed 72-60 in a game that saw Tori Swanson score 21 points and dish out six assists. Following that game, the Storm dropped back-to-back games against No. 1 Umpqua Community College and Southwest Community College. After those two tough losses, the team rallied to win their last two games. Up first was Clark Community College, a game the Storm won 79-44 led by Swanson’s 24 points. In their final game of the year, the Storm faced No. 3 Clackamas Community College on the road. In their first meeting, the Storm fell 77-66. However, after finding their rhythm late in the year, Chemeketa was able to pull out a 61-59 victory. The Storm relied on strong play from Swanson and Destiny Fahndrich all season long. Fahndrich averaged 14.4 points, 6.6 rebounds, and 2.6 assists for the year. Swanson was just as dependable, averaging 12.2 points, 5 rebounds and 2.5 assists. This guard and forward tandem carried the team throughout the year.
